Jongwan Jang is an artist that deals with the blind faith and fantasies that people harbor while pursuing Utopia, and the contradictions of reality hidden beneath, through the narrative form of fables using various media based on painting, drawing and animation. In the exhibition 《Prompter》, the artist focuses on the propaganda paintings and objects commonly found at various venues where global leaders hold summits or release important statements, and transformed ARARIO MUSEUM’s underground exhibition hall into a stage-like podium. Each painting or item that decorates the places such as presidential offices, national assembly buildings or conference halls symbolizes the authority of the leader or national ideologies.

Like a ‘prompter’ situated at the side of a stage what they stand for is not directly apparent, but they act as a political symbol. However Jang’s works ruled out political intentions to suggest that political venues are no different from a very well set up stage. ARARIO MUSEUM hopes that 《Prompter》 will be a chance for the visitors to contemplate on the various roles and influences of art in the political society of today.
