Jeong Kyungja graduated from the Department of Photography at Chung-Ang University (1999) and completed a master’s course at its graduate school (2007). She completed another master’s course in Contemporary Art at Edinburgh College of Art, The University of Edinburgh (2011). In 2008, she held his first solo exhibition after being selected for a young artist contest by Gallery Lux.

Jeong Kyungja (48, photography) was
awarded the Grand Prize at the 23rd Gwangju Shinsegae Art Festival, while Sun
Minjung (29, painting) received the Emerging Artist Award.
Gwangju Shinsegae Gallery conducted a
total of 61 individual online evaluations through an external jury composed of
respected figures in the art world. Following the final review, eight artists
were selected for the first-round exhibition.
The first-round exhibition features works
and portfolios by Noh Eunyoung, Seo Younggi, Sun Minjung, Sul Park, Song
Seokwoo, Yu Jiwon, Lee Sehyun, and Jeong Kyungja. This year, the final award
recipients will receive prize money of 10 million KRW for the Grand Prize and 5
million KRW for the Emerging Artist Award. In addition, the selected artists
will be granted a solo exhibition at Gwangju Shinsegae Gallery next fall,
supported by a separate production grant.
The award ceremony will take place at 5
p.m. on the 26th at the gallery on the first floor of the Gwangju Shinsegae
Main Building. The first-round exhibition will continue at the same venue
through September 6.
