OLED ART WAVE's third project, 《Long Dream》(Oct. 25 - Nov. 7, 2023, Seongsu-dong Scène), focuses on humanity's dreams of utopia and the perspectives of today’s young artists as they face what comes next. The imaginary spaces created by the five participating artists (teams) — Gijeong Goo, Yehwan Song, Studio ARTECH, Yaloo, and Jonathan Monaghan — unfurl across OLEDs that bridge the gap between virtuality and reality with vibrant light and color.

In the aftermath of global disaster, the dream of a sustainable new world built through ecological and symbiotic technologies now belongs to another era. Where in the past, technology opened up creative opportunities for the arts that went far beyond the mere depiction of nature, contemporary art today utilizes technology to create transcendent experiences that reach past reality itself. In particular, the main medium of this exhibition — transparent OLED displays — opens up further realms of possibility for this material transcendence, presenting a powerful new way to bring imaginary space into reality.

Thanks to the overlap between transparent OLEDs and their interaction with the actual space around them, they function as something more than simple mediating displays for the artworks at hand, creating a visual world that can be realized with OLED technology. The incredibly detailed representation of color and light, meanwhile, at the very edge of what the human eye can perceive, opens up a new window for artists looking to the future. In encountering the fresh perspectives of these featured artists today, in the wake of the modern utopian fantasy, we are given the opportunity to dream anew, to re-envision the values and attitudes of our shared tomorrow.
