Industrial Bank of Korea(IBK) presents the first exhibition of 《IBK&GMoMA YOUNG ARTISTS 2023》: Kai Oh’s solo exhibition 《Half Sticky》.

Kai Oh captures natural elements throughout urban spaces using her smartphone. She prints the collected digital images and then experiments with them by tearing, cutting, perforating, or drawing on the photographs. Furthermore, she integrates disparate materials such as sponge and vinyl, moving beyond the conventional attributes of photography to continuously explore new possibilities.

In this exhibition, as suggested by the title 《Half Sticky》, the artist expands the material properties of photography by incorporating elements like sponge and structural supports such as temporary partition walls that sustain the artwork. By involving spatial elements that support the photos, like partition structures and wall surfaces, the work transforms into a large-scale photo installation, making the tactile qualities of the digital collage photos more flexible and fluid.

Through the medium of photography—which inherently captures and fixes a fleeting moment—Kai Oh paradoxically explores the constantly changing world, redefining photography as a flexible and intermediate existence. In doing so, the artist stimulates the viewers' imagination with kitschy or surreal tactile digital photo collage installations, revealing diverse possibilities and new ways of perception.
