The Jeonju Cultural Foundation (CEO Baek Ok-seon), organized in collaboration with the Epop Friends Supporters Association (Chair Na Chun-gyun), has announced the recipients of the “2021 Epop Friends Artist Awards.”

This award was established in May of this year by “Epop Friends,” a support group formed under the Jeonju Cultural Foundation, with the aim of encouraging artists who continue their creative practices under challenging conditions. Nominations were received from Jeonju citizens and arts organizations through the 24th.

A total of 26 candidates were recommended, and following a review process conducted by a selection committee formed by the Supporters’ Steering Committee, three artists and one planner were ultimately selected.

The Artist Award recipients include Yun Cheol Gyu (mid-career, visual arts), Jaewon Kim (mid-career, performing arts), and Miryu Yoon (emerging, visual arts). The Planner Award was presented to Park Geun Young (Musical SUE Company). Each recipient will receive a prize of 3 million KRW.

Na Chun-gyun, Chair of Epop Friends, stated, “It is deeply meaningful to announce the first recipients of the ‘2021 Epop Friends Artist Awards.’ I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the local businesses and citizens who have supported this initiative.”

He added, “For this inaugural year, we prioritized selecting artists who have quietly continued their creative work despite difficult circumstances, in order to honor the founding purpose of the award. We hope that this initiative will further promote a culture of patronage.”

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on the 10th at 6:30 PM at Cafe Sunny, Palbok Art Factory, in conjunction with the Palbok Dabok Music Concert.
