The ‘2025 Pakdongjun Prize’ has been awarded to designers Jaewoo Kim and Min Kim in the fashion category, and to artist Seulgi Lee in the visual arts category. Established in honor of the late designer Park Dongjun, who passed away in 2019, the prize was created by the Pakdongjun Memorial Association (Chairman Yoon Soon-young), an organization formed by individuals across various fields to support artists annually.

From 2020 to 2023, the prize alternated yearly between the fashion and visual arts categories. Starting in 2024, both categories have been awarded simultaneously each year.

This year, Seulgi Lee was selected for the visual arts category, while Kim Jaewoo (J WOO) and Kim Min (CENTURYCLO) were jointly selected for the fashion category. For the visual arts category, a nomination committee composed of experts in art criticism, exhibition planning, and art media recommended the most active and notable artists in the current art scene.

The final selection of Seulgi Lee was made through a transparent and fair evaluation process by the jury. The judging criteria included the artist’s conceptual and thematic engagement with contemporary discourse, originality of technique, potential for future growth, and social engagement through artistic practice.

Seulgi Lee (born 1972) was born in Seoul and grew up in Daegu until middle school, later attending high school in Seoul before studying at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She has been based in Paris since 1992. With a witty perspective, she transforms everyday objects into works of art through the use of geometric patterns and vivid colors.

The award ceremony for the 2025 Pakdongjun Prize will be held on Friday, November 7, at Gallery BUNDO, located at 36-15 Dongdeok-ro, Jung-gu, Daegu. The winners will also hold exhibitions at Gallery BUNDO: Jaewoo Kim and Min Kim will present their work on November 7, while Seulgi Lee’s exhibition will run from November 7 to December 12.

Gallery BUNDO was operated by the late Park Dongjun from 2006 until November 2019. The space reflects his commitment to prioritizing artistic value over commercial interests and supporting the growth of artists.
