Kiwon Park’s solo exhibition 《Works Furniture》 opens on April 10 and runs until May 10 at Tea Studio (58 Sinpo-ro 15beon-gil, Jung-gu, Incheon).

In this exhibition, Park presents 28 pieces including desks, bookshelves, and chairs. Functional furniture used in everyday life has been transformed into sculptural works imbued with a distinctive aesthetic sensibility. The pieces are made of steel with zinc plating and are assembled with bolts, allowing for disassembly and reassembly.

The artist explains, “Steel is heavy but occupies little volume, and is convenient to dismantle and assemble. I chose zinc plating to highlight the inherent materiality of steel. Because studio space is always insufficient and limited, studio furniture must have a rational and ideal structure.”

Kiwon Park graduated from the Department of Art Education at Chungbuk National University. In 1989 and 1990, he won the Grand Prize at the JoongAng Fine Arts Prize (then hosted by Ho-Am Gallery, the predecessor of the Leeum Museum of Art), and in 2010 he was selected as Artist of the Year by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
