Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Samsung Foundation of Culture’s residency program at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, which was suspended for three years, has resumed. The Foundation has selected Minsook Kang and Jeehee Park as resident artists for 2024 at Cité Internationale des Arts. Kang will participate in the foundation’s residency program from March to August 2024, while Park is scheduled to be in residence from September 2024 to February 2025.
Artist Minsook Kang is engaged in performance art that explores the relationship between life and art, focusing on the act of “care.” Kang observes the relationships between everyday objects, people, and events, conducting a project that highlights overlooked elements and seeks to restore their value. Her residency project was highly commended for exploring the loss, persistence, and transition of language and culture.
Artist Jeehee Park, based on interdisciplinary studies in anthropology, biology, and architectural history, visualizes the history and changes of architectural spaces. Her project suggests drawing and installation work using microorganisms to reconstruct an ideal urban space. The work was selected for its relevance to the coexistence of urban and natural issues, demonstrating temporal and locational uniqueness.
Cité Internationale des Arts is a space for artists in various fields such as art, music, dance, architecture, and literature, and the Samsung Foundation of Culture has been collaborating with Cité since 1996, providing long-term studio leases to support outstanding Korean artists. A total of 23 artists have been in residence, including Cho Yongshin, Yun Aiyoung, Geum Joong-ki, Han Sungpil, RohwaJeong, Sojung Jun, Min Oh, and Ji Hye Yeom.
