The 2024
Busan Biennale, titled "Seeing in the Dark," which opened on August
17, runs until October 20 across 4 venues, including the Busan Museum of
Contemporary Art, Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum, HANSUNG1918,
and Choryang House.
Among
the venues for the 2024 Busan Biennale, the Vault Art Museum of the Busan
Modern & Contemporary History Museum, a former branch of the Bank of Korea
converted into an exhibition space, presents works that engage with the
historical context of the location and its themes.
The
exhibition at the Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum addresses
themes of 'power' and 'plunder' within a historically significant site where
capital was once created and safeguarded, fostering subversive perspectives.
Participating
artists include Oladele Oladélé Ajiboyé Bamgboyé, Zishi Han, Cha Ji Ryang, Yang
hee Lee, Koo Hunjoo, Cheikh Ndiaye, Sophia Al-Maria, Chen Xiaoyun, and Yun Choi.
A highlight of the Busan Biennale at the Busan Modern & Contemporary
History Museum is Cha Ji Ryang's new work, Like everything being seen has a bow (2024).
Set in a
sensuous and dreamy personal space, this piece invites viewers into a
multi-layered space-time that reflects the artist's personal experiences of the
phenomena between dreaming and waking.
