Daejeon
Museum of Art presents a collection exhibition “RIM DONGSIK: SEASONS” featuring RIM Dongsik's works and related works in the museum. The
exhibition looks at the art world of the artist, who has always been with
nature, from the line of Seasons, which is the flow of natural time.
Among
the museum's collections, this exhibition will walk along the work trajectory
of RIM, including Bonchuni and the Painter - Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
(2002), Nature Artist and Painter (2005), River of Memory
(1991-2008), and the new collection, Gangwon-do hares beyond the juniper
tree (2021).
The
title of the exhibition was borrowed from RIM's 1981 founding preface of the
Yatoo (Outdoor Field Art Research Association). Founded with young artists
based in Chungnam, Yatoo has been seeking the practice of natural art by
performing performances and installations in outdoor sites. In his founding
preface, the artist introduced humans and art that exist as part of nature.
RIM's
art museum, implied as 'Nature Art', continues even after converting the past
performances performed in outdoor sites into paintings. For him, art is also a
way to exist along with nature.
The
artist's thoughts are fully reflected in the paintings depicting the four
seasons. The change in nature in the work is the result of the artist's extreme
efforts to capture something in the moment of the ever-changing season, not
just spring, summer, autumn, and winter. And visitors who see the work will
have a mysterious experience looking at the circulatory nature through the eyes
of RIM, the natural person and artist.
