Ranee Seoul presents 《Afternoon & Morning. Morning & Afternoon》, an exhibition featuring Chris Ro and Yunim Kim, from October 20 to November 17.

《Afternoon & Morning. Morning & Afternoon》 marks the first joint exhibition of the married artists, who share both their artistic practices and their lives, exploring the idea of being “different, yet not so different.” Although the two artists pursue independent artistic practices with distinct identities, their works reveal narratives of intimate coexistence and mutual understanding, much like the morning and afternoon that together make up a day.

Chris Ro creates works characterized by dynamic compositions of planes and lines, bright colors that evoke a sense of wit, and bold, expressive gestures. In contrast, Yunim Kim draws on themes emerging from contemplation, incorporating negative space, restraint, and traditional Korean aesthetics into her practice.

What the two artists share, however, is an inclination toward diverse artistic worlds that cannot be confined to a single genre, embracing cultural hybridity. Both artists freely explore the organic integration of overlapping media, two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality, emptiness and fullness, and the concept of movement within stillness in their creative practices.

Chris Ro is an artist whose practice spans a wide range of media, including painting, animation, drawing, silkscreen printing, and installation. His inspiration begins with music. He visualizes the movement conveyed by sound and melody through planes and lines, layering the narratives embedded within them through touches of color and exploring emotions experienced through the body to translate them into artworks.

Recently, he has been developing his artistic practice by exploring how concepts such as sound, space, atmosphere, energy, laughter, and the soul can be experienced visually.

Yunim Kim is an artist who reinterprets natural materials such as hanji (traditional Korean paper), ink, textiles, thread, incense, and talc, along with lyrical traditional aesthetics, transforming them into contemporary abstractions.

She approaches the textures of fabric, the arrangement of planes and lines, and the knots and draping of threads sculpturally, constructing three-dimensional compositions. Her works, which give three-dimensional form to contemplation, emptiness, and traditional sensibilities, explore the possibilities of fabric painting and sculpture.
