This place was once an architecture dedicated to disappearance. An incineration plant was an urban apparatus that burned waste and pushed odors, smoke, and ash somewhere out of sight.

Yet no matter disappears completely. The ash left after burning, fine particles and heat dispersed into the air, and numbers and data preserved in records continue to operate on different planes, merely changing their forms and media. This exhibition constitutes a room for such layers—for things that continue to persist outside the circuits of incineration and deletion.

What is addressed here is data-matter. Distances and depths measured by machines, landscapes converted into coordinate values, forms decomposed into point clouds, images and poems generated by artificial intelligence, and figures distorted through errors and noise all constitute layers of memory that cannot be resolved through a single act of incineration or deletion.

Through technologies such as LiDAR sensors, photogrammetry, real-time rendering, and generative artificial intelligence, the artist collects data from environments, humans, and matter, focusing on the minute deviations and mismatches that emerge as they pass through algorithms. In this process, data is no longer a transparent medium of information but fills the exhibition space as material components floating at a stage prior to assuming fixed form.

What viewers encounter is not a single image or a completed narrative, but structures of sensation that continuously fluctuate and are reconfigured. Forests and bodies dismantled into point clouds, clusters of particles undulating in response to sound waves, and combinations of poems and images generated according to the meanings assigned to the fixed format of one’s date of birth do not stabilize the boundaries between reality and virtuality, human and non-human, matter and data, but instead suspend them in an ambiguous state.

Rather than functioning as an enclosed room, the virtual dimension operates as a field in which incomplete data and indeterminate movements temporarily reside and test possible forms.

The artist has referred to modes of existence that traverse the layers of data and matter as “speculative matter.” In this exhibition, speculative matter is understood as a movement in which recorded data combines with computational structures and manifests in sensorially perceptible forms, while simultaneously dispersing again into invisible dimensions through errors, noise, and deviations.

The works function as devices that reveal together layers that have always existed in different ways—data-matter pushed outside established systems or not yet conceptualized. Within a world ordered toward incineration and deletion, consistency and efficiency, this exhibition instead seeks to present another cross-section of reality produced by speculative matter composed of errors and noise, numbers and particles.

As viewers pass through this room, they may quietly perceive what is stored, what is calculated, and what ultimately remains unburned—and how such data-matter is subtly redirecting our senses and our perception of the world.
