In 2018, Cheongju Art Studio presented its Artist Relay Exhibition, a project-format program showcasing works produced by resident artists during their residency period.

Held in the studio’s exhibition space, the Artist Relay Exhibition serves as a presentation of the outcomes of each artist’s work and, each year, provides an opportunity for participating artists to demonstrate new sensibilities and capabilities beyond the tendencies and frameworks of their previous practices.

As the fifth relay exhibition by the 12th cohort of resident artists, Beom Jinyong’s 《Riot of Void》 will be held from October 4 to October 17 on the first floor and at the Window Gallery. The exhibition opening will take place at 5 p.m. on October 4 in the lobby of Cheongju Art Studio.

Beom Jinyong observes images of seemingly unremarkable landscapes encountered in his surroundings and projects the complex emotions embedded within himself onto these scenes. The landscapes he depicts generally convey a damp and dark atmosphere, an effect that can be attributed to the artist’s distinctive brushwork.

Spontaneous and dynamic strokes develop into a kind of flow across the canvas, creating a somber sense of rhythm. Through this rhythm, his landscapes create the illusion that viewers themselves are walking through the scenes depicted on the canvas.
