Space Willing N Dealing presents Daum Kim’s solo exhibition 《By the Bamboo Forest》 from August 6 to August 25.

Through experiments that explore new modes of communication using online communities and the possibility of social trust, Daum Kim examines the ways contemporary individuals adapt to and conform within the imperfect conditions of everyday life. In this exhibition, the artist seeks to explore the potential of interfaces as a means of developing one’s capacity to respond to reality.

I pay attention to the various interfaces that contemporary individuals encounter in the course of everyday life. In particular, my practice focuses on errors of experience and distortions of memory produced by the indirectness inherent in interfaces. An interface that emerges “between” different relationships is a “space of possibility”: nothing exists there in itself, yet something can be formed within it.

I collect traces of the various events that occur in this space every day. The information and stories I collect are classified and then re-edited through various media, including video and installation. Through the process of making art, I seek to understand how people around me, including myself, form relationships with society and how they live within imperfect conditions.
