A solo exhibition by Daum Kim, whose practice encompasses video, installation, and sound, is presented at Factory2.

Kim has used the concept of “landlocked land”—a parcel of land with no direct access to a road—as a metaphor for the psychological and emotional state of an individual surrounded by various social environments and conditions. Landlocked land has no independent passage of its own, meaning that in order to move in or out one must cross land owned by someone else.

Kim approaches landlocked land not only as a concept in real estate, but also as a kind of interface suitable for explaining various social and cultural relationships. He has been interested in the many forms of “landlocked land” that surround society and individuals, as well as the experiences and stories entangled with them.

His solo exhibition 《Blind Road》 begins with the artist reflecting on his own experience of becoming lost without knowing his destination and on the feelings he experienced at that moment, focusing on the road that connects landlocked land to another territory or object.

In the videos, the artist establishes himself as either a definite destination or a form of landlocked land, addressing the process through which something comes toward him and the emotions experienced along the way. Four videos poetically translate the artist’s acts of attracting their subjects, while a sound work connecting them fills the exhibition space.
