Installation view of 《prototype overlay mapping》 (Keep in Touch, 2024) © Kim Jung Eun

Through processes of selection and measurement, Kim Jung Eun chooses subjects to be mapped and develops her own self-mapping series. Using records of accumulated experience and movement as coordinates of time, she presents various forms of spatial mapping.

The exhibition, held at Keep in Touch through June 4 as a mid-process presentation, features works from the ‘Sculptures of Movement 2017–2023’ series, which give form to the accumulation of her experiences and movements across time and space, together with sketches from works currently in progress.

prototype1_ overlay mapping visually records the artist’s routes of movement—everyday routes, movements from center to periphery, from west to east, and so on—and the experiences connected to them. While a map ordinarily represents fixed geographic information, here it appears and disappears through interaction with moving sculptural elements, expressing an experience that is dynamic and fluid.

The work symbolizes movement across the boundaries between reality and the virtual, and between the present and the past. In doing so, it visually demonstrates how the artist’s experiences of movement transform and expand through time and space, while offering viewers a new mode of experience.
