As part of its residency program, Incheon Art Platform is carrying out the “Creation & Production Project,” which supports the creative activities of its 2022 resident artists. As the fifth project in the visual arts category this year, it presents Kim Jung Eun’s solo exhibition 《Dorr dorrrr》.

Kim Jung Eun has developed sculptures, videos, and installations around “mapping,” based on the routes and trajectories of movement that she habitually records and collects. The exhibition 《Dorr dorrrr》 focuses on the restricted paths of movement that emerged from the physical limitations imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the pandemic, the artist recreated objects she encountered by chance while walking as kinetic sculptures, or collected the sounds of objects and the spaces in which they were situated and visualized them through sound and sculptural forms. Through this process, she approaches the act of “movement” itself from a sculptural perspective and seeks to represent it sculpturally through forms that incorporate motion.

The exhibition title, “Dorr dorrrr,” evokes the image of something rolling. It is also an onomatopoeic rendering of some of the sounds heard in the installation and sound work presented in the exhibition (2022). The artist rolls objects such as stones, collected from various locations along her routes, between rails to produce sounds of friction.

She weaves together objects that metaphorically represent different places with her experiences and memories formed through bodily movement. By connecting one place to another, she unfolds a new visual terrain within the exhibition space.

Through this exhibition, the artist examines the relationships among discarded objects transformed into artworks, revisiting spaces that are easily passed by or briefly inhabited and seeking to redefine their boundaries.
