Artist Do Ho Suh was selected as this year's internationally renowned artist at the Storefront for Art and Architecture gala.

Do Ho Suh, recipient of the 2013 Innovator of the Year Award in Art from WSJ. Magazine, recently held a solo exhibition at Storefront for Art and Architecture.

Established in 1982, Storefront for Art and Architecture is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering innovation in architecture, art, and design. For over 30 years, it has provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration across disciplines, ideologies, and geographic boundaries.

As part of its annual gala, Storefront selects and honors one internationally renowned artist and architect each year.

This year, Do Ho Suh was named Artist of the Year, alongside Thom Mayne, a leading American architect and recipient of the 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize, the most prestigious award in the field.

The 2025 gala theme, "TRANS," focuses on key elements in both honorees’ works—Suh’s materialization of architectural elements and Mayne’s defiance of architectural conventions.

Storefront for Art and Architecture will hold its annual gala on Tuesday, April 21.

Among Suh’s works awarded this year, his installation "Corridor and Staircase – New York Apartment/Bristol" was recently presented at the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery in the UK.

Commissioned by the Bristol Museum, this site-specific installation meticulously recreates the hallway and staircase of Suh’s New York apartment in translucent fabric, offering visitors an immersive experience that evokes the architectural details of his former home.

Having spent most of his adult life abroad, Suh’s work explores themes of physical and cultural displacement, addressing separation, migration, loss, and longing.

The artist is known for reinterpreting real spaces—such as furniture, rooms, and entire buildings—through unexpected materials and scales, transforming everyday environments into ethereal and thought-provoking installations.

"Corridor and Staircase – New York Apartment/Bristol" was created in partnership with Arnolfini (a contemporary art center), the International Art Fund, Arts Council England/Victoria & Albert Museum Purchase Grant Fund, and the Henry Moore Foundation, which also contributed to its acquisition.
