Gallery Factory’s exhibition for April–May 2014 is RohwaJeong’s solo exhibition 《Within Arm’s Length》. This exhibition is about the distance between what we commonly identify as the center and the periphery that surrounds it. In particular, the “center” and “periphery” that the duo addresses through the exhibition are the exhibition itself and the “processes and devices” that constitute it.

In other words, the core of the exhibition lies in transforming the series of processes leading up to the moment just before the exhibition takes place into the work itself. This is a small movement by RohwaJeong to return to their original positions the margins that, before a center came into being, may perhaps have been the center—or somewhere close to it.

Among the five new works, Rearview consists of two paintings. The subject painted on each canvas is the back side of the canvas being painted by the other artist. Usually, once a painting is completed, we cannot see its reverse side. The work brings forward what exists but remains hidden and obscured.

In addition, the long sculpture Doubled distance, which cuts across the exhibition space, is a ladder that had been used at Factory for the past ten years. RohwaJeong remade the ladder, which had appeared in the exhibition space only during periods outside exhibitions to help with installation, as an artwork, placing it in a role different from before.
