Lee Bul (54), Anicka Yi (48), and Kang Seokyoung (42) Selected for the 58th Venice Biennale Main Exhibition. Artists Lee Bul, Anicka Yi, and Kang Seokyoung have been selected to participate in the main exhibition of the 58th Venice Biennale. The three artists were named among the 79 participants recently announced by the Venice Biennale organizers. This year’s Venice Biennale, curated by Ralph Rugoff, director of the Hayward Gallery in London, is organized under the theme "May You Live in Interesting Times."

According to PKM Gallery, Lee Bul will present three works at this year’s Biennale. A large 4-meter-high monument created from dismantled debris collected during the decommissioning of guard posts in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) will be exhibited at the Arsenale. Additionally, "Scale of Tongue," a textile sculpture previously shown at her Hayward Gallery retrospective, will be installed alongside a silk velvet painting at the Italian Pavilion.

Lee Bul was previously invited to both the Korean Pavilion and the main exhibition of the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999. At the time, she gained international recognition when she was selected by the legendary 20th-century curator Harald Szeemann. With her participation in this year's Biennale, she sets a record as the first Korean artist to be invited to the main exhibition twice.

The 58th Venice Biennale will be held from May 11 to November 24, 2019. Known as the "Olympics of the art world," the Venice Biennale is a prestigious large-scale international exhibition held every two years.
