Gosari, Untitled © Gosari

Artist Gosari’s solo exhibition is on view at Daechumoo Fine Art in Gangneung through the 11th. This is the exhibition of an artist selected for the “2023 Artist of Tomorrow Award,” first organized last year by Gangneung City and the professional arts corporation Daechumoo Fine Art.

Gosari physically presents synesthetic experiences and shifts in perception through ordinary materials found in everyday life.

Notable works include Breath, in which the artist cast plastic bags filled with her own breath in cement and visualized them as objects. The work reveals the weight of breath, which contains human thought and spirit. In the installation work Untitled, viewers can push through thin, elongated vinyl sheets. The rustling sounds produced by the friction of the vinyl, together with the narrowed field of vision within it, offer a distinctive experience.

The exhibition is structured so that each viewer may define the transparent “empty space,” which can symbolize both opening and closing, in their own way and fill it with their own thoughts.

Gosari graduated from the Department of Painting at the University of Ulsan and the Graduate School of Hongik University, and has participated in programs including the Kwon Jin Kyu Atelier Residency.

Earlier, Gangneung City and Daechumoo Fine Art selected two artists under the age of 45 for the Artist of Tomorrow Award, and first held a solo exhibition by Seo Inhye last year. The jury selected the two artists based on criteria such as how their artistic worlds reflect the characteristics of the Gangneung region and their potential for communication with the local art scene, including regional art universities and related institutions.
