Jeju Museum of Art will hold the 2024 Art Jeoji Woongcheol Lee exhibition 《The Line – Mirror of Memory》 at the One-Pyeong Museum of the Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art from the 13th of this month to August 25.

The Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art has continued to operate Art Jeoji, an audience-participatory exhibition program, by using unused outdoor space as a “One-Pyeong Museum.”

Since 2021, it has introduced various exhibition contents in order to create opportunities to widely promote the diversity of contemporary art and the artistic worlds of artists.

The exhibition organizers stated, “Artist Woongcheol Lee works based on the memories of his father, who worked as a dispatched laborer in his youth for national land development plans in the Middle East in the 1970s and 1980s, and through ‘stories about time and space in memory’ and ‘signs and objects that represent an era,’ he pays attention to the present world created by human desire and the future world that will come as a result.”

This exhibition consists of mirrors that give form to “The Line,” part of Saudi Arabia’s “Neom City” project, in which enormous artificial structures are built in nature; icons that symbolize the vision of the city; and videos using objects collected by the artist’s father during his time working in the Middle East.

Byun Jongpil, director of the Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art, said, “We expect this to be a special opportunity to newly examine the harmony between nature and artworks through the multifaceted use of the museum’s unused space.”
