The SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation will hold the 《24th SONGEUN Art Award Exhibition》 from Tuesday, December 17, 2024, to Saturday, February 22, 2025.

The SONGEUN Art Award has been held annually since 2001 to discover and support promising contemporary Korean artists. This year, a total of 598 artists applied, and through the preliminary selection held in February, 20 finalists were selected.

The 20 participating artists in this year's 《24th SONGEUN Art Award Exhibition》—Guna, Jamyeong Gu, Wonhwa Kim, Sangho Noh, Jongyoung Park, Yoonhwan Bae, Sumin Song, Yewhan Song, Yuri Ahn, Yalu, eobchae, Omyocho, Ahyeon Yoo, Seungae Lee, Hyein Lee, Jaeyoung Cho, Minuk Jin, Jangwon Choi, Mirim Chu, Youngjun Tak—present new works that encompass various media, including painting, sculpture, installation, video, and sound, showcasing the diversity of contemporary Korean art.

In 2020, marking the 20th anniversary of the SONGEUN Art Award and the opening of its new building, the foundation prepared a reorganization of the award. Starting in 2021, while maintaining the existing exhibition-based evaluation process, the number of participating artists was expanded to 20.

The foundation has since strived to become an award that supports creative activities by collaborating with institutions such as the Seoul Museum of Art, known for nurturing talented artists through diverse exhibitions and programs, and Cartier, which has demonstrated sustainable support and dedication to arts and culture.

The Grand Prize winner of the 《24th SONGEUN Art Award》 will be announced in January 2025 after the final evaluation during the exhibition period. The Grand Prize winner will receive the existing prize of 20 million KRW and support for a solo exhibition at SONGEUN within three years.

Additionally, with the support of the SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation and Cartier, the foundation will acquire two artworks by the Grand Prize winner (worth approximately 30 million KRW). One piece will be housed in the SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation collection, and the other at the Seoul Museum of Art. The winner will also be given a one-year residency opportunity at the Seoul Museum of Art Residency Program, encouraging continued artistic development.

The 20 participating artists will also be granted eligibility for the ‘SONGEUN Foundation – Delfina Foundation Residency’ program, established through an exclusive partnership with the Delfina Foundation in London. One selected artist will receive support to participate in the 12-week residency program. As one of the largest international residency programs in London, the Delfina Foundation annually invites around 40 artists to build an international platform for the arts.

Alongside the exhibition, the Welcome Room at SONGEUN will host the 4321-MARKET. Initiated in 2020, this will be the fifth edition of the holiday market, presenting witty and creative products conceptualized by independent designers. The market serves as a platform for emerging domestic and international designers to directly interact with buyers. This year's 4321-MARKET theme is "SONGEUN," and the 22 participating teams (28 designers) will present products inspired by SONGEUN's unique narrative and the architectural features of its new building. The products will be unveiled on Sunday, December 22. The designers' portfolios, which offer deeper insights into their backgrounds and future directions, will be available for viewing at the Welcome Room until February 22.

The SONGEUN Art Award Exhibition is open for free visits from Monday to Saturday, from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm, via prior reservation on Naver. The exhibition is closed on Sundays and holidays. Docent tours are offered free of charge for visitors who make prior reservations through the Naver booking system, operating at four times a day: 11:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 16:00.
