Chongkundang Yesuljisang was established in 2012 with the aim of providing emerging artists who had previously participated in major art support programs in Korea with opportunities for sustained artistic development through creative funding and exhibition platforms.

Today, a wide range of support initiatives are operated by the government, local municipalities, and private non-profit alternative spaces, producing numerous emerging artists each year.

However, systematic programs designed to support these artists over the long term remain scarce. As a result, only a small number of promising young artists ultimately succeed in becoming central figures within the Korean art world despite the large number of artists emerging annually.

Chongkundang Yesuljisang serves as a secondary support program that helps artists whose potential has already been recognized to further develop their practices and provides a platform for the next stage of their artistic growth.
