Last year, in the first half of the year, Factory2 attempted a social utterance on diversity through 《An Era of Reading Side by Side》(curated by Kim Daeun), and in the second half of the year, through 《the third f unknown mold festival》(curated by Lee Jiyeon), it metaphorized and reflected on the ways beings in the world survive through the medium of mold.

The two projects each foregrounded different media, “books” and “mold,” but ultimately shared an awareness of diversity, discovery, hospitality, coexistence, and solidarity. Sensing society, the world, and the Earth in various ways was also a shared direction.

This year, based on the artistic attitude and mode of inquiry that Factory2 has pursued over the past twenty years, we present the exhibition 《Unknown Workout Ground》, which shows the point where the two projects and the two curators naturally overlap.

The exhibition 《Unknown Workout Ground》 begins from an attempt to look at the world we do not yet fully know, that is, the “unknown.” Here, the “workout ground” symbolizes a place where each being collides, falls, and rises again, as well as a space where one learns how to live together while recognizing the differences and similarities between humans and nonhumans.

For this reason, the workout ground is an experimental site where unpredictable movements continue to arise, and a place of will to move beyond survival toward symbiosis in a constantly changing world.

To be on the “workout ground” reveals that each body is closely connected to its surrounding environment, and that one rediscovers oneself and the world amid unexpected encounters and collisions. There, we scatter and gather, sway and stop, and connect with other beings.

《Unknown Workout Ground》 contains movements that naturally continue, such as injury and recovery, stillness and commotion, and proposes that we sense change in various ways within them.

This exhibition explores the multilayered worlds that constitute us, from individual bodies to microorganisms and nature, humans and society. It moves across the boundaries between outside and inside, human and nonhuman, nearness and distance, and pays attention to the moments when different beings intersect.

《Unknown Workout Ground》 goes beyond simple viewing and becomes a site where we collide, experiment, and collaborate together. Just as repeated exercise develops muscles, through the modes of transformation and resistance, observation and walking shown in the exhibition, we will awaken the “sense-muscle of coexistence,” gradually train its strength, lean on one another, and make our way through the “unknown.”
