Over the past four months, Hayoun Kwon's solo exhibition 《The Bird Lady》 at Palais de Tokyo, successfully concluded on September 10. Supported by the Korean Cultural Center in France, the exhibition opened on June 14 and was conceived as part of the 2015 Palais de Tokyo Emerging Artist Prize, which served as the foundation for this project.

For this exhibition at Palais de Tokyo, Kwon collaborated with curator Katell Jaffrès to create an immersive work centered around an imagined world where a mysterious woman, known as L’Oiseleuse (The Bird Lady), exists. The narrative follows Daniel, a male drawing artist, who becomes entangled in this world, blending personal stories with the artist’s own imagination. The project explores the boundaries between dreams and reality, objective statements and fictional interpretations, ultimately questioning what is real. To emphasize this concept, Kwon incorporated VR technology into her video-based digital work, allowing audiences to navigate between fact and illusion.

VR technology, which creates an artificial environment that closely resembles reality, was utilized in this installation to engage visitors and encourage interaction between the artwork and the audience. Many visitors were drawn to the exhibition, intrigued by the fusion of art and cutting-edge technology.

Reflecting on her work, Kwon stated, “I have been continuously working on breaking the constraints of time and space, and VR technology caught my attention. I hope to further explore artistic discourse using this medium.” Her statement raises anticipation for her future projects, which will continue to incorporate advancements in video and digital technologies.
