Contemporary artist Haegue Yang (professor at Städelschule, Frankfurt) is holding her first large-scale solo exhibition in South America at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo in Brazil.

Titled 《Quasi-Colloquial》, the exhibition opened on the 4th and also marks the inauguration of the museum’s new building, Pinacoteca Contemporânea.

For this first solo exhibition in Brazil, Yang presents five distinct bodies of work grounded in in-depth conceptual and cultural research, structured around two contrasting pillars of Brazilian culture: modernism and indigenous traditions. The exhibition runs through May 28.

Following this exhibition in Brazil, Yang is set to continue an active year of programming. On April 19, she will present new work in the group exhibition 《World Classroom: Contemporary Art Through School Subjects》 at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. This will be followed by a solo exhibition opening on the 22nd at S.M.A.K. (Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art) in Ghent, Belgium.

In May, she will hold a solo exhibition titled 《Haegue Yang: Changing From From to From》 at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra. In the fall of 2024, a survey exhibition is scheduled at the Hayward Gallery in London, which will subsequently travel across Europe.

Previous recipients include Nalini Malani (2019), Roni Horn (2013), and Olafur Eliasson (2007). The final winner of this year’s prize will be announced at the end of May.
