The Kim Se-choong Commemoration Foundation, established to honor the late sculptor Kim Se-Choong (1928–1986), announced on the 16th that Korean American artist Choong Sup Lim (69) has been selected as the recipient of the 24th Kim Se-Choong Sculpture Award.

Meanwhile, artist Haegue Yang (39), based in Germany and who held a solo exhibition at the Korean Pavilion of last year’s Venice Biennale, has been named the recipient of the 21st Kim Se-Choong Young Sculptor Award. Professor Hong Sunpyo (61) of the Department of Art History at Ewha Womans University Graduate School has been selected as the recipient of the 13th Korean Art Writing Award. The award ceremony will take place on the 24th at 5 p.m. in the main hall of the National Academy of Arts, Republic of Korea.

Meanwhile, Kim Se-Choong, a sculptor who graduated from Seoul National University and later served as a professor at its College of Fine Arts as well as the director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, left behind numerous monumental works, including the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin in front of Gwanghwamun, Patriotism and Peace at the National Assembly Building, and the Korean Bell of Friendship in Los Angeles. His widow is the poet Kim Nam-jo, and his son Kim Beom is active as a conceptual artist.
