Son Donghyun’s exhibition reflects the city of New York, considered as the center of the world. New York, especially Manhattan Island is often described as an object of desire but at the same time, it is put under all kinds of disasters in many movies in pop culture.

The artist painted on paper the destroyed landscape of Manhattan Island, based on the list of ‘The Ten Best Movie Destructions of New York City’ announced in 2007. Various reasons causing the city’s collapse and the spectacles occurred by giant destruction carry out special meanings.

The public’s excitement about the island’s fall reveals the fear of the end of the world and also the distorted feeling of desire mixed with jealousy and anger about the island. His ‘destroyed island’s scene’ draws the center of the world and the landscape containing the public’s desire for its end.
