Kumho Museum of Art’s curated exhibition 《Journey to a Fluid Island》 examines the concept of “utopia” as reinterpreted within a contemporary context, centering on works by 14 Korean painting artists in their 30s and 40s who are gaining attention both domestically and internationally.

The exhibition focuses on how the traditionally landscape-oriented notion of “utopia” has expanded today through artists’ social and personal perspectives. Comprising 90 works that visualize not only landscapes but also a range of subjects combined with imagination, the exhibition reveals individualized viewpoints and inner reflections.

It also presents an opportunity to explore the expanded material scope of Korean painting as a means of expressing emotion and subject matter, encompassing traditional ink and light color painting using brush, paper, and ink; colored painting that became widespread after the 1980s; and further, acrylic color works reflecting active experimentation with media.
