《Submerged Serenity》 is a solo exhibition by Kim Shinwook, marking his return to Seoul after two years. Over the course of four years, the artist observed bitterling fish in a small tank by his studio window, documenting the cycle of hatching, growth from fry to adult, and spawning once again.

This intimate experience expands outward to the Han River and Cheonggyecheon Stream, where stories of the disappeared sturgeon and the returning Korean shiri prompt a renewed inquiry into urban ecology and collective memory.

Spanning over two decades, Kim Shinwook’s work with freshwater fish moves beyond simple documentation, becoming a site that metaphorically reflects the cycles of life, disappearance, and return. This exhibition brings together a range of his freshwater projects, revealing landscapes where invisible currents and time intersect with the individual and the collective.
