This exhibition is organized as part of the 2023 Korea Arts Council’s Creation Space Support Program, and showcases works by contemporary artists that project the current zeitgeist through perspectives on both the material world and the metaphysical realm.

Participating artists reconsider contemporary flatness—represented by screens composed of rare earth elements—as a new surface of the picture plane, and present works through new methodologies.

In the previous exhibition 《Smooth Stone Field 1》, artists including Mansoon Kim, Yoonsub Kim, Byungho Lee, and Minsun Cho explored the spirit of the times through the body as a material entity.

In this exhibition, four artists—Minjung Geum, Jun Kim, Aokizy, and Yunsung Lee—present works in painting, installation, sculpture, and video.

Han Youngae, curator of Schema Art Museum, stated: “At the origin of art lies flatness, which has evolved from earth and wood into smooth monitors composed of rare earth elements as primary materials,” and added, “We invite audiences to encounter contemporary artworks in which this newly expanded flatness has evolved beyond concepts into transformations as data.”
