Koo Bohnchang attended Yonsei University majoring in Business Administration and later studied photography in Hamburg, Germany. He was a professor at Kaywon School of Art and Design, Chung Ang University, Seoul Institute of the Arts and a visiting professor in London Saint Martin School.

Professor Koo Bohnchang (62), of the Department of Photography and Media Arts at Kyungil University, has received the Presidential Commendation in the visual arts category at the 47th Republic of Korea Culture and Arts Award.
At the Cultural Arts Merit Awards ceremony held on the 12th at Umyeondang Hall of the National Gugak Center, Professor Koo was recognized as an artist who has made a significant mark on contemporary Korean photography. He was presented with a presidential commendation along with a prize of 10 million KRW.
Appointed as a professor in the Department of Photography and Media Arts at Kyungil University in March 2010, Koo Bohnchang belongs to the first generation of photographers in Korea to have received specialized education in photographic art. Since 1985, he has developed a broad range of professional activities as an artist, educator, and curator, and has been credited with contributing significantly to raising both the intellectual standards and international standing of Korean photographic art.
In his acceptance remarks, Koo stated, “I will continue to dedicate myself to educating younger generations at Kyungil University while working toward the further development of Korean photographic art.”
