As the second exhibition at IBK Art Station, 《Layered》 brings together promising emerging artists working in the field of painting.

The term “layer” refers to a membrane covering a surface or to multiple strata accumulated upon it. In painting, where form is created by building up pigments on a flat surface, layering is an indispensable element. Since the beginning of art history, numerous painters have sought to reveal the uniqueness of their artistic worlds by accumulating layers of paint in diverse ways.

Participating artists Seoul Kim, Sooyeon Kim, Hyerim Jeon, Seonkyung Ji, Jihee Kim, and Yunhee Choi are young artists actively working with variations rooted in traditional painting. They build and combine images, memories, histories, and language—conceptually or physically—dynamically crossing the boundaries of the flat surface. The diverse layers accumulated through their individual approaches move between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space, between the pictorial surface and actual space, thereby expanding the spectrum of painting.

It is hoped that this exhibition, situated within the lobby space, will offer visitors an opportunity to freely explore the environment and experience the expanded possibilities of contemporary painting.
