Trunk Gallery’s October exhibition is 《Monument Zero》 by Sangdon Kim. Today, our hearts remain heavy because of the Sewol Ferry disaster. Many in our society—unable to address their words toward anyone—are in need of healing, and there is a collective sense that this tragedy must be remembered so that such a horrific event never happens again. Through 《Monument Zero》, Kim opens his heart to those affected—and indeed, he wishes for dialogue with everyone.

Sangdon Kim is one of the artists Trunk Gallery is proud to represent. He joined the gallery through his 2011 exhibition 《Bulgwang-dong Totem》, and this marks his second exhibition here. Following his 2011 show, a series of fortunate events unfolded for him: he received the 12th Hermès Foundation Art Award, the 10th Daum Prize, and the 3rd Doosan Yonkang Art Award, which led to his participation in the Doosan Residency in New York.

This exhibition consists of works that the artist began preparing during his time at Doosan New York. Thankfully, the works in this exhibition were also supported by the Print Provision Program organized by ‘Monthly Photo Dot’, for which the gallery expresses gratitude.
