The point of view to perceive a painting as an ‘object’ or ‘medium’ started from Gerhard Richter (Germany, 1932), who has developed Post Conceptual Paintings in response to crisis theory of a painting. In addition, it has further made gradual progress through a series of artists like David Hockney (England, 1937) who endeavored to rebuild a new ‘Point of View’ or ‘Perspective’ in their own artistic ways since Impressionism. So, the exhibition by Im Sunny looks back on modern approach of ‘Painting as a Medium’ in regard to major art historical achievements of a painting established by artists in the Western, and it also sets up the stage to grasp the ways of settling down on the topographic map of Korean paintings.
