Sejin Hong graduated from the Department of Painting at Incheon Catholic University College of Fine Arts and earned her Master’s degree in Painting from Hongik University Graduate School, where she also completed her doctoral coursework. She is based in Seoul.

Selected for the 2023 Emerging Artist Support
Program, Sejin Hong’s solo exhibition 《Swaying Straight Line》 explores the subtle realm of truth that lies between the new and
the old in an age of ever-evolving technology. Comprising sixteen works,
including paintings and installations, the exhibition investigates the points
of articulation within the nonverbal and presents new painterly forms that fill
the gaps of disconnected information between the real and the perceived worlds.

New works such as Half-Rounded
Solitude, Turning Line, and Smooth Square
depict landscapes composed of organic beings derived from nature and artificial
mechanical objects used in industrial contexts. The artist transforms these
disparate scenes into geometric forms, applying textured techniques to
accentuate flatness and create distinctive paintings.
These works are arranged
in the format of a phenakistiscope, a manually operated projection device, and
accompanied by sound and installation elements to amplify their audiovisual
resonance.
