Gana Art presents the solo exhibition 《Resonance》 by Nakhee Sung (b. 1971), an artist known for her abstract paintings that evoke a musical sensibility. This marks Sung’s first solo exhibition with Gana Art, showcasing new paintings and drawings produced in 2021.

Through concise and intuitive brushstrokes and refined color combinations, Sung has long expressed psychological flows and auditory energy within her works. The paintings in this exhibition are all titled Chord, suggesting a sense of harmonic arrangement as organic shapes meet, overlap, and accumulate—like musical notes of differing pitches forming a chord in harmony. The artist introduces new compositional variations that capture the resonance and reverberation of sound—the lingering synesthetic echo that spreads gently from the moment a single chord is struck.

For this show, Sung also presents a new series of small-scale paintings and drawings, expanding her artistic scope beyond her previous formats. Her long-standing exploration of musical harmony and dissonance, and the auditory imagery they evoke, culminates here in works that embody the subtle tremors and lingering vibrations that remain after sound fades.

The dynamic interplay of pictorial elements that fill the canvas paradoxically reveals the process by which all energies of the world ultimately return to a state of stillness—where neither sound nor vibration exists, only pure silence. Featuring large-scale paintings alongside small works and drawings, 《Resonance》 offers an insightful look into Sung’s artistic world, which visualizes the invisible through abstraction and celebrates her continuous experimentation with the medium of painting.
