Minae Kim received her BFA and MFA in Sculpture from Seoul National University. She later earned an MFA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in the UK and a DPhil in Fine Art from Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. Currently, she serves as a professor in the Sculpture Department at Seoul National University, where she mentors the next generation of Korean artists.

The Doosan Group’s
Yonkang Foundation held the 4th Doosan Yonkang Arts Award ceremony on the 4th
at Doosan Art Center in Yeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, with Chairman Park
Yong-hyun in attendance.
Established in 2010 to
commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Doosan Group’s first
chairman, Park Doo-byeong, the Doosan Yonkang Arts Award aims to uphold his
belief in the importance of nurturing talent. The award recognizes outstanding
artists under the age of 40 in the fields of performing arts and visual arts
who demonstrate strong potential for growth.
This year, in the
Performing Arts category, Sung Ki-woong (39), head of 12th Language Theatre
Studio, received the award for his adaptation and direction of the play The
Seagull (Gamome). In the Visual Arts category, Minae Kim (33), Kim Young-na
(35), and Cha Jae-min (28) were honored for their work across design and
sculptural art disciplines.
The four recipients will
receive a total of 400 million KRW (approximately 300,000 USD) in support,
including cash prizes and financial aid for their artistic activities. The
Performing Arts winner will be awarded 30 million KRW (approximately 22,000 USD)
along with 70 million KRW (approximately 52,000 USD) in funding for the
production of a new performance. The Visual Arts winners will each receive 10
million KRW (approximately 7,500 USD), along with additional benefits such as a
residency at Doosan Residency New York and exhibitions at Doosan Gallery Seoul
and Doosan Gallery New York, amounting to a total of 90 million KRW
(approximately 67,000 USD) in support.
Chairman Park Yong-hyun
emphasized the foundation’s commitment to fostering artistic talent, stating,
"At Doosan, we place people at the center of everything we do. Our goal is
to discover and support talented artists, helping them gain broader global
experiences."
