We are witnessing the rise of concerns for human existence in the post-COVID-19 era. The Seongbuk Museum of Art unveils 《The Portrait of Time》, an art show featuring works of sculpture by Chung Hyun who has pursued the nature of ‘humans’ and ‘sculpture’ throughout his life. Chung Hyun, who broke away from realistic sculpture after studying in France, began working on semi-figurative works and tried to bring about an audacious twist both through sculptural tools and factures. He displayed sculptures that reveal the physical properties of his material in the 2000s.

This exhibition sheds light on ‘humanity’s spirituality and existential energy’ he has consistently sought through sculptures and installations that have varied since the 1980s. The show sums up the artistic journey of Chung Hyun who has captured ‘the nature and strength of sculpture itself’ on the basis of sculpture’s legitimacy even in the trend where genres and borders are extended infinitely.

The exhibition in the main gallery brings together approximately 100 pieces including his 80 cardinal sculptures and installations, drawings, and undisclosed works. His 12 installations have been displayed at the Street Gallery outside the museum as a public art project of the same title since July 30 this year.
