The exhibition 《Painting, Traces of Intersected Eras》, the fourth to be presented at Museum Hodu, is organized in collaboration with Artertain and the Total Museum of Contemporary Art. This exhibition brings together mid-career artists active from the 1970s to the 1990s—centered on nominees and award recipients of the 1st to 5th Total Art Awards—as well as emerging artists of the 2020s.

By intersecting the sensibilities and perspectives of different eras through the medium of painting, the exhibition seeks not only to highlight generational differences in aesthetic perception but also to examine how Korean contemporary art has evolved and expanded over time.

Despite the rapid evolution of technology and media, painting remains one of the most fundamental and essential forms of artistic expression. This exhibition presents painting not as a legacy of the past but as a living and breathing creative language of the present. It reflects on painting’s identity and potential, reaffirming its continued relevance as a vital language of perception.

Featuring painting alongside sculpture, installation, and video works, the exhibition is structured to encourage active engagement rather than passive viewing. Through docent programs, visitors will be introduced to key artists and historical points of appreciation. Hands-on experiences—including Dansaekhwa techniques and material-based sensory workshops—are designed to deepen understanding of the works. Through these various related programs, the exhibition offers an opportunity to compare the aesthetic sensibilities of “the past and the present,” fostering dialogue across time.
