《Pitman’s Choice》 is composed of images that Seeun Kim observed and contemplated—spaces between inside and outside—within cities she has lived in over the past three years. These are often places left behind after cities are constructed, such as edges formed around civil infrastructure like roads, bridges, and tunnels. The images do not directly replicate landscapes but rather depict spaces and movements that arise as the artist reconstructs scenes imprinted in her eyes onto the canvas.

Seeun Kim adjusts the scale—zooming in or out—when observing her subjects to modulate the distance between herself and the object, in order to capture the minimal information that emerges from the interaction between her body and the subject, along with the sensations occurring between the two. For Kim, the question of “from what point, position, and posture to observe the subject through visual and physical training” is a significant one. She presents the spaces formed by the structures, shapes, and movements found within the scenes she discovers by building them onto the canvas.
