The 20th SongEun Art Award has announced its winners, naming artist Youngjoo Cho as the grand prize recipient.

Established in 2001 by the SongEun Art and Cultural Foundation, the award aims to support and cultivate talented young Korean artists. This year, Ifie Sin (media art), Jong Oh (installation), and Hyunsun Jeon (painting) were selected as the Excellence Prize winners.

Youngjoo Cho is a multidisciplinary artist working across performance, installation, photography, video, sound, and dance. Recently, her practice has evolved to reflect her personal yet universally relatable experience of childbirth and motherhood, engaging with the complexities of being both an artist and a woman navigating societal expectations.

Ifie Sin, known for her research-based approach, visualizes the intricate relationships within collective structures. Viewing her studio as a "laboratory," she adopts a scientific and omniscient perspective in her video-based works, observing and analyzing human behavior.

Jong Oh creates site-specific installations using simple materials such as fishing line, thread, and geometric elements like points, lines, and planes. His works reinterpret spatial relationships by transforming given architectural spaces into new environments that embody both balance and tension.

Hyunsun Jeon, on the other hand, freely translates collected images, personal experiences, and spontaneous thoughts or emotions onto canvas using watercolor, creating dreamlike and introspective compositions.

The grand prize winner, Youngjoo Cho, will receive KRW 20 million and the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at SongEun Art Space in the future. Each Excellence Prize winner will receive KRW 10 million in prize money.

Additionally, all awardees are eligible to apply for the SongEun Art Foundation - Delfina Foundation Residency program. One selected artist will be granted a 12-week residency program as part of the initiative.

The 20th SongEun Art Award Exhibition, showcasing the winners’ works, will be open to the public until February 6 at SongEun Art Space in Gangnam, Seoul.
