Chong Kun Dang Holdings has selected three artists—Kim Sun-young, Yoo Seung-ho, and Choe Sooryeon—as recipients of the Chong Kun Dang Art Award(Yesuljisang) 2020 and will support their creative activities over the next three years.

The Chong Kun Dang Art Award was established at the suggestion of Chairman Lee Jang-han to provide emerging artists with the opportunity to fully develop their artistic potential. Each year, three artists are selected for the program, and since its inception in 2012, a total of 27 artists have received support.

The selection process for this year’s awardees involved two rounds of private reviews conducted by a panel of experts from the art world. The chosen artists were highly praised for their distinctive expressive techniques and experimental approaches, which reflect diverse directions in contemporary Korean painting.

Each selected artist will receive an annual grant of 10 million KRW (approximately 7,500 USD) for three years. Additionally, in the final year of the program, they will have the opportunity to present their works in a curated exhibition.

Artist Kim Sun-young remarked, "This program goes beyond mere financial support; it provides practical assistance that fosters artistic growth, making it one of the most anticipated programs among emerging Korean artists. Over the next three years, I will devote myself to my work and present pieces of the highest quality."

Hwang Sang-yeon, CEO of Chong Kun Dang Holdings, stated, "It is deeply meaningful to be able to support the growth of artists who will lead the future of the Korean art scene. We will continue exploring and implementing various ways to contribute to the advancement of culture and the arts in Korea."

Meanwhile, Chong Kun Dang Holdings will host the 7th Chong Kun Dang Art Award Exhibition at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from September 24 to October 6. This exhibition will feature works by the 2018 award recipients—Kim Chang-young, Seo Min-jung, and Seo Won-mi—offering a glimpse into the artistic progress of past participants.
