ARARIO MUSEUM has announced the opening of Lee Dongwook's solo exhibition 《Low Tide》 at ARARIO MUSEUM Dongmun Motel II in Jeju, which will run until July 9th next year.

This exhibition encompasses 15 years of the artist's work, from his early university days to his latest creations.

The title 《Low Tide》 refers to the moment when the sea level is at its lowest due to the receding tide. The artist focuses on the fleeting moment when everything is exposed in its raw state, as well as the surface that conceals this essence. Through his latest works, Lee Dongwook explores an expanded perspective within the continuity of his previous pieces, experimenting with the relationship between the essence of objects and their external layers.

The exhibition occupies two of the four floors of ARARIO MUSEUM Dongmun Motel II, showcasing new works created in 2016. One of the featured installations is "Everything is Interesting", made of colorful stones collected from around the world. This piece, first presented earlier this year, exhibits a unique character with a different form and composition compared to his earlier works.

Another floor presents a dark, windowless room where golden chains, stretching 16 meters in length, are intricately linked together. Additionally, there is an installation that places pieces of honeycomb between press machine components used in factories. Although each piece differs in form and material, they all share a golden hue.

Ryu Jeonghwa, Deputy Director of ARARIO MUSEUM and curator of this exhibition, stated, “This is Lee Dongwook's first solo exhibition in Jeju, and it serves as an opportunity for the artist to explore a new direction in his work. Just as low tide reveals the bare essence of the sea, this exhibition allows for a deep appreciation of Lee Dongwook's artistic exploration of the fundamental nature of objects.”
