The Busan Cultural Foundation will showcase the outcomes of international exchanges initiated through the "2026 Busan Culture and Arts Support Program: Special Open Call for Residency Revitalization" in a jointly organized exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei and a collaborative performance created by Korean and Japanese artists in Shizuoka.

Launched for the first time this year, the special open call goes beyond conventional residency support by establishing direct partnerships between the foundation and overseas arts and cultural institutions. The initiative connects Busan-based artists with local artists abroad through exchange, research, collaborative creation, and public presentations.

Its distinctive feature is that participating artists engage in the entire creative process together, rather than simply undertaking overseas residencies and presenting completed works.

The exhibition 《When Tomorrow is Forgotten》 (當未來不再被紀念) will be held from October 3 to November 22 at MoCA STUDIO on the first floor of the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei.

Co-curated by Junghoon Kim and Huang Yi-Hsuan, the exhibition features six artists: Doki Kim, Hyemin Son, and Hyeonjun Jung from Busan, alongside Chiu Wei-Hsiang, Kuo Yu-Ping, and Wan-Chien Cheng from Taiwan. Against the backdrop of super-aged societies in Korea and Taiwan, the exhibition explores themes of life, care, memory, aging, family, and migration.

In Shizuoka, Japan, the outdoor street theater performance Walking On, collaboratively created by a Busan-based performing arts group and Strange Seed Shizuoka, will be presented at 1 p.m. on October 11 in conjunction with the reenactment of the Joseon Tongsinsa procession at the Okitsu Fair in Shizuoka City.

The work reinterprets the spirit of peace and cultural exchange embodied by the Joseon Tongsinsa diplomatic missions through a narrative about "envoys from the future." The performance is co-directed by Heo Seok-min of Warm Person from Korea and Hamayoshi Seitaro from Japan.

The Busan Cultural Foundation selected participating artists in April, followed by on-site research and artistic development in Taipei in June and collaborative workshops involving Korean and Japanese artists in Shizuoka in September.

Through these activities, the foundation has established a model of international collaboration in which artists work together throughout the entire process, from planning and research to artistic production and local presentations.

Song Sung-jun, CEO of the Busan Cultural Foundation, stated, "The special open call launched this year focuses on the process of Busan artists creating new works together with international artists. We hope that the collaborative experiences gained in Taipei and Shizuoka will enhance the creative capabilities of participating artists and provide an opportunity to expand Busan's foundation for international cultural exchange."
