Wumin Art Center will present 《F.O.R.D. Fix Or Repair Daily》, a solo exhibition by Seo Young Chang, winner of the 23rd Wumin Art Award, from July 2 to August 23.

Since 2016, Wumin Art Center (Wumin Foundation) has organized the Good Artist of the Year Award, and in 2017 it changed the name to the Wumin Art Award in order to support artists who contribute to the development of Korean contemporary art beyond the regional sphere and propose new possibilities for contemporary art. Wumin Art Center provides the winner of the Wumin Art Award with a prize of 10 million KRW and support for a solo exhibition, offering continued opportunities for artistic creation and presentation.

The 23rd Wumin Art Award Winner Exhibition, 《F.O.R.D. Fix Or Repair Daily》, is a solo exhibition by Seo Young Chang, who works primarily with video, installation, and drawing, and whose practice focuses on the relationship between the body and time in contemporary capitalist society.

Chang views the body as a material as well as temporal form, and has explored the reconfiguration of time and space as perceived by a body transformed through processes of deterioration. This exhibition presents the ways in which the body—constantly updated and worn down within accelerated time—collides and synchronizes with technological environments.

Beginning with the question, “Is it possible to get lost even on a single path?”, the exhibition focuses on the human sensation of experiencing a labyrinth even within clearly designed routes and procedures, such as health screening centers, large hospitals, kiosks, moving walkways, and highway Hi-Pass lanes.

Through the condition of the body, which requires daily repair, replacement, and supplementation, the exhibition reflects on how one senses the “self” as a material existence even in a society where technological interfaces are becoming increasingly convenient. By translating the friction between the operating principles of technology and the body, as well as the interfaces that function between them, into a sculptural language, this exhibition offers an opportunity to reconsider the relationships among the body, technology, and time.
