From September 2 to 19, Beom Jinyong’s solo exhibition 《Gotta Knock》 will be held at the 777 Gallery on the third floor of Yangju City Art Studio as the first exhibition in the 10th cohort’s relay solo exhibition series.

This relay solo exhibition series highlights the achievements of the 10th cohort of artists who have continued their creative practices since joining Yangju City Art Studio in 2025. Beginning with Beom Jinyong, solo exhibitions by Jeon Kabin, Shin Yong Jae, Kim Minji, and Soo Hong will follow in sequence.

Opening the relay solo exhibition series, Beom Jinyong has explored ways of seeing and approaches to painting through a practice centered on the human figure. This exhibition presents approximately 200 works that trace the development of his practice during the residency as well as recent formal changes.

The exhibition title 《Gotta Knock》 reflects the artist’s persistent approach of drawing closer to and closely observing his subjects in order to understand them.

Until 2025, the artist built up multiple layers to convey time and traces on the faces of his subjects; beginning in 2026, however, he shifted his practice toward concentrating on a single layer and a single brushstroke. Through this approach, he reveals a process of looking closely and at length at his subjects, discovering and recording the individuality of each person.

An exhibition-related program, “Artist Talk,” will be held in the gallery at 2 p.m. on September 2. Beom Jinyong will discuss the curatorial concept of the exhibition, changes in his practice, his perspective on the human figure, and his painterly expression, while freely exchanging ideas with participants.

“This exhibition offers an opportunity to examine the body of work Beom Jinyong has accumulated at the studio since beginning his residency, as well as the changes in his painting practice,” adding, “We also hope for continued interest in the distinct artistic practices and achievements of the resident artists whose exhibitions will follow.”

The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last admission at 5 p.m. For further information, please contact Yangju City Art Studio at 031-8082-4246.
