KOLON FnC’s outdoor brand KOLON SPORT announced on the 12th that it would unveil the seventh edition of its ‘NOACH PROJECT’ for the 2020 FW season.

The NOACH PROJECT is a campaign launched in 2016 to protect endangered plants and animals in Korea. Each season, the brand selects one species of plant or animal, releases a capsule collection based on it, and donates a portion of the proceeds.

Beginning this year, all NOACH PROJECT products have also adopted eco-friendly materials and production methods, further reinforcing the campaign’s significance. Centering on the NOACH PROJECT, KOLON SPORT has also announced its goal of expanding the use of eco-friendly materials to 50 percent of all its products by 2023, the year marking the brand’s 50th anniversary.

The theme of the 2020 FW NOACH PROJECT is the lacebark pine. As its Korean name suggests, the tree is distinguished by its white bark and is protected to the extent that certain specimens have been designated as specially protected trees. Through this season’s NOACH PROJECT, KOLON SPORT aims to raise awareness of the lacebark pine. In particular, the collection was developed in collaboration with artist Jazoo Yang.

Berlin-based artist Jazoo Yang proposed two works for the NOACH PROJECT: ‘Materials’ Series, which reinterprets the lacebark pine, and Berlin Oak Rubbing. KOLON SPORT incorporated prints based on these works into products from the NOACH PROJECT collection.

The 2020 FW NOACH PROJECT collection consists of a total of 42 products, ranging from down jackets to hats. As with the previous SS season, every item was produced using 100 percent eco-friendly materials and environmentally conscious techniques. Among them, the ‘RE;BIRSTOCK Padding,’ made with recycled filling material, is particularly notable.

The filling was recovered by dismantling KOLON SPORT down products and then reused to create new down garments. The RE;BIRSTOCK Padding was produced through a process certified under the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), an international textile certification standard for recycled materials.

The NOACH PROJECT collection also incorporates yarn made from recycled PET bottles, recycled nylon, and organic cotton produced through environmentally responsible cultivation methods. For dyeing, KOLON SPORT used DTP (Digital Textile Printing), a technique that significantly reduces water consumption, enabling the company to save approximately nine tons of water.

The NOACH PROJECT is carried out in partnership with the environmental social enterprise Tree Planet.

Tree Planet is a social venture that creates forests around the world and has recently been working to restore forests in areas of Gangwon Province affected by wildfires. KOLON SPORT uses a portion of the proceeds from the NOACH PROJECT to support forest creation together with Tree Planet. As a result of sales from the 2020 SS NOACH PROJECT, approximately 1,000 pine trees are currently being planted, and the same forest restoration initiative is planned to continue during the FW season.

Park Sung-chul, Brand Manager of KOLON SPORT, said, “For an outdoor brand, the practice of sustainability ultimately comes down to environmental responsibility. KOLON SPORT proposes this approach to sustainability through the NOACH PROJECT. From the materials that make up our products to the processes through which they are created, we hope to embody a positive environmental impact through the NOACH PROJECT.”
