Wumin Art Center has selected Seoul National University alumna Ji Eun Kim (45) as the recipient of the 21st Wumin Art Prize.

Kim will receive KRW 10 million in prize money and hold a solo exhibition at Wumin Art Center in the second half of next year.

After completing her BFA and MFA in Western Painting at Seoul National University, Kim has continued to examine the nature of urbanization by focusing on unstable urban landscapes shaped by recurring cycles of redevelopment and demolition in contemporary society.

Beginning with her first solo exhibition 《Law-Full Landscape》 at Insa Art Space, Seoul, in 2005, Kim has presented numerous solo exhibitions, including 《Hermit Crab-ism》 at Alternative Space LOOP, Seoul, in 2011; 《The Construction of Ruins》 at DOOSAN Gallery New York in 2014; and 《Non-place Like Home》 at Gallery Simon, Seoul, in 2021.

She has also participated in residency programs in Korea and abroad, including the Vermont Studio Center in Vermont, United States; Taipei Artist Village in Taipei, Taiwan; SeMA Nanji Art Studio; Goyang Art Studio; and DOOSAN Residency New York.

The Wumin Art Prize was established by the Wumin Foundation to support the continued artistic practices of accomplished mid-career artists aged 40 and above. Originally founded in 2002 as the Good Artist of the Year Award, it was renamed the Wumin Art Prize in 2018.
